Who We Are

We are strong, Métis/Metis women representing nations from across the homeland. At one point, we all worked together as radical librarians, challenging various systems wherever we can. Now, we have banded together to chat books, culture, and anything else that comes up.

Individual bios are below:

Tanya

Tanya Ball (She/Her) is a Michif woman from Winnipeg, Manitoba in Treaty 1 Territory. She is a self-proclaimed Indigi-nerd, reading comics, playing video games, and puzzling. Yes, making puzzles. On the weekends, you can catch her chilling with the fam-jam, baking gluten-free goodies. During the workweek, she is hanging out in the Faculty of Native Studies chipping away at her Ph.D.

Sheila

Sheila Laroque (She/Her) is Métis from the Saskatoon area. Her father is from Duck Lake, SK, her mother is from Alsa Craig in ON. Her sense of humour is from the Internet, her cynicism from grad school and love language is the gif. After 3 years in the (ironic) 6ix; this prairie gal from the 306 came back home to the Treaty 6 in Edmonton. She is currently working as a librarian; and her 5 year plan has no current project charter.

Kayla

Kayla Lar-Son: Raised by a Metis mother and a Ukrainian father, Kayla claims to be one of the best Pierogi making Bannock slappers on the other side of the North Saskatchewan River. Recently she packed up her husband, dog, and cat, and relocated to an acreage outside of Josephburg AB, so that she could be closer, but not too close to her hometown of Tofield AB. In true Capricorn form she can be a bit pessimistic at times, but watch out for her dark sense of humor it can come out at the most inappropriate of time.
